earl grey or english breakfast…

April 12th, 2004

Drawing of Tea…is my usual first-thing-in-the-morning choice.

I’ve been waking early of late so I’m usually making my choice between 6.30 and 7.00, just after feeding The Cat. I do find the early mornings a comforting time. It’s usually very quiet here, unless The Cat has decided I’m not awake early enough for her liking. I can potter about quietly enjoying feeling reasonably rested and usually not dopey. I suspect it’s my best time of the day. I’m quite calm, generally not thinking much beyond my first cup of tea of the day.

Things weren’t always like that. Before I was diagnosed with ME, and was still trying to look like I was a productive person in the world, I used to wake up in a driving panic that would send me running to the toilet and unsure how I was going to cope with the day. Now, as boring as my life often feels, it’s good to be reminded that usually the most difficult thing I have to do is decide between Earl Grey and English Breakfast.

Tomorrow I’m going to have to try and get myself together reasonably quickly. I’m leaving early for a trip to IKEA with N. Maybe I’ll get some things for my (hopefully) soon to be ready new-look studio.

I’m an Earl Gray woman… I also use either Twinings or Co-op own brand. I’ve not founda fairtrade Earl Gray which tasted ok yet.

    Enjoy Ikea!

Here’s a vote for English Breakfast in the morning. It used to be a choice between Nescafe or more Nescafe for me, but tea is much for appropriate for mornings I think.

    Ikea on a bank holiday??

The Republic of Tea makes the best Earl Grey every, and I would forgo a lot of things for Twinings — so that’s no small statement.

I’m such a Yank — French press coffee is it for me in the mornin’.

I like earl Grey..prefer the loose tea though. And Lapsang..I adore Lapsang. Making good tea is not easy..it is a true art.
I went to Ikea for the first time a few weeks ago…it is a very scary place.., be sure to sample the morrocan veggie casserole. I didn’t notice the hot food queue and had a salad and then at the checkout there was a lady in front of me with theis heavenly smelling food…..but the ques had gooten longer and longer. I wished she had picked somewhere eslse to stand, I’d usffered enough torment for one day. Have fun ;-P
PS Just found your blog todasy and love the drawings..we have stuff in common!

Oddly enough though I too adore earl grey I only think of it as an afternoon tea. A good ceylon tea is nice in the mornings. Have you tried lady grey? Like the earl but with bergamot overtones and good at any time. German Christmas tea with its pungent blend of spice and citrus is out of this world! Kerry
