people i wish had blogs…
After looking at some wonderful photos over at Black Notebook of a visit to Derek Jarman’s Prospect Cottage I was suddenly struck that Derek Jarman would have made a wonderful blogger. I’m sure there must be many other people that I’d like to have (or have had) blogs. Here are a few off the top of my head. Who would be on your wishlist?
- E M Forster
- My cat
- Jackson Pollock
- May Sarton
- Russell T Davies
- Gordon Brown
- Rufus Wainwright
- Jonathan Ive
- Philip Pullman
I seem to be feeling VERY sorry for myself just now. I did buy myself a couple of new Moleskines yesterday in a bit of emergency retail therapy, but might just have to order something from Amazon too. The best bit of retail therapy does seem to be the anticipation of the purchase - my new Moleskines are still in their bag - so at least with an Amazon order I HAVE to wait for the postman to bring the goodies. I think I’ll use their free (and slower) delivery option…

Ohhh Derek Jarman my favourie filmmaker. I think he would have been a great blogger and I think he would have relished having a public platform.
If you come to london and have time the British Library has an exhibition about gardens with a few of his notebooks on display.
Hope your drawing class went ok.

I must admit, I too would pick Derek Jarman first, his sketchbooks and paintings are amazing, as are his journals. Have you read ‘Chroma’?
Afraid I don’t know half the people on your list, but I would want to see blogs by Dave McKean and Mark Rothko. Don’t think I could bear to read a politician’s blog, but artists, writers and musicians, now they are interesting. Oh yes, and cats!
Meanwhile, go shop young man…

My cat once somehow renamed my computer “iukhy” while walking across the keyboard. I suppose blogging is the logical next step.

How about Robert Graves? He could blog as Claudius and then there’s Theo VanGogh so we’d get the latest news on Vincent. Though there some people I would rather not know what’s going on in the mind ie Bosch. This looks like a fun list to complile.

I think Jarman would have made a wonderful blogger. Reading his journal you can feel the passion that he felt for life, and the anger that it sometimes stirs in us. Surely wonderful characteristics for a blogger wouldn’t you say!
Thanks for a wonderful blog here Michael - I’ve keep meaing to make a comment on your posts and say how much I enjoy them. Keep up the wonderful work - I shall finally order my beaney today after many months of moving it up my list of must-have purchases! (Sorry, the iPod shuffle nudged you back a bit more than I would have hoped!)

What a great list. I was tickled to see your cat at number 2
Ah yes, retail therapy. Dangerously addictive. Be careful!

Trouble with meds here, so it’s a while since I’ve read.
I would LOVE to read E M Forster’s and Rufus Wainwright’s bogs!

Colette and Tom Waits (even better a collab journal between Colette and Tom Waits lol). Some of her books unfold like a journal. I bet Janey Morris could have written up a storm too.
