i’m not sure…

Car Radio

…how my routine is going. My plan was to “do” a little each day last week. I managed Monday to Wednesday and then collapsed and was fit for very little on Thursday and Friday. A shame, because those were the two days I’d set aside for drawing and blogging - the things I enjoy most.

Actually Wednesday was planned as an out-and-about drawing day and then Thursday and Friday as studio days where I could work on my drawings, the next issue of The Beany and my blog. I did manage to take myself out on Wednesday. I packed a flask and some sandwiches and went to town to draw and take a walk along the beach. The rain meant I spent a fair bit of time sitting in my car listening to a recording of Jane Eyre on my car radio and munching my sandwiches. I enjoyed myself and found things to draw even in the car.

It was lovely to have a day devoted to drawing. I haven’t had one of those in a long while and I want more of them. If I am, I’m going to have to make them a priority and not hope there’ll be enough energy left over after I’ve done other things…

I just got back from a whirlwind tour of the Maritime provinces with my daughters. I haven’t done as much drawing this summer as planned, but did do a little, probably more than I would have done if I hadn’t planned. I do have a few ocean photos I want to work from.

    Cheers,
    Van

I agree about the need to take days where art is a priority. In my work I do an exercise with people where they describe their personal values and then I ask them to write down everything they’ve done in the past week. You’d be amazed how many people will list a value and then find they’ve done NOTHING to support it. It’s a real eye opener. I think it’s hard to take time for yourself and say that art is something that you NEED to do, rather than it just being something you’d like to do when you get the chance. Keep making that time, I say. . . love the radio, btw.

    Hello Michael.

Cool radio, thanks. My special number appears too: 57, along with black & red, which I am into at the moment.

“P” is for plans, pressure and perfection. It is also for pick (more daisies).
You need to draw; you want to plan. Satisfy your needs first mate. The world is a better place for your drawings.

    Cheers,

    B.
