new toy…
September 1st, 2005
…but not one I would have put on my Christmas list.
Danny Gregory is apparently feeling his age. Me too. When I visited my doctor yesterday to discuss my annoying coffee spilling habit he took my blood pressure and then handed me a little contraption I can use to monitor my readings at home for a month. Yuck. Normally I would be very pleased to have a new electronic toy, and actually (and rather perversely) I do quite like the little grey and white contraption - it’s a little like something Batman might have had in his batbelt. What I don’t like is the fact that my GP feels I need to keep an eye on my blood pressure, even if he has sweetened the pill with a new toy. Definitely a ho hum moment.
On the coffee spilling front, he did think the problem could well be a side-effect of medication and so I’m slowly coming off the sertraline I’ve been taking for the best part of the last two years. Hopefully I’ll be able to visit My Favourite Cafe again soon for a large cup of coffee - unless my blood pressure is too high and then I might have to have peppermint tea instead. Like I said, ho bloody hum.
Actually, I’m feeling surprisingly upbeat despite feeling my mortality a little just now. Perhaps it’s something to do with the fact that I’m off to Scotland tomorrow for a week. Lovely.

Hi Michael,
I to have a gadget like yours, I brought myself as I have borderline high blood pressure. Though I must admit I haven’t used it for a while or checked my blood pressure in the surgery where I work for a while, (I’m sure it’s because if I do it will just remind me that I need to be more active and need to loose more weight, instead I’ve just woken up after a nice afternoon nap infront of the telly while my 13 year old is baking packet mix cookies, yum). My eldest did very well in her GSCE’s she got A* in chemistry, 6A’s(maths, German, Art, Biology, Physics,+ Geography) 3B’s (english’, english lit + RS) 1c in Welsh. She is going to sixth form to do Art, Chemistry, Geography + Maths. God I’m getting old, in 3 weeks she will start to learn to drive. Pherhaps I’ll start to drive again soon, I havn’t driven for nearly 20 years. I haven’t got enough confidence, though I passed 1st time when 17 ,I should of never given it up.
Hope you enjoy your week away and relax ,don’t forget my postcard (ha ha) speak to you soon
Take care
love Tracy X

Michael, supposing you drank decaffeinated coffee - would your doc allow that if your BP remains stable?
I may have had my own high BP day yesterday, but today is much better. I wish you a wonderful vacation in Scotland. My family comes from there, Skye, oh so many centuries ago.
