Back from London
I’m back from London, just as the clocks change and spring arrives (sort of). I’ve spent this week digesting my trip and moving myself back out to my studio now that it’s (a bit) warmer. It’s good to be back in a bigger place, somewhere to spread out, somewhere that can just be dedicated to work. Being out of here for a while has been good too, I think I might try and do the same next winter, though I’m not sure if my bedroom is the best place to shift myself too. There’s plenty of time to decide, and in the meantime the summer to look forward too.
Life is feeling like a bit of a challenge again just now, but I’m trying to remember to trust that things take the shape they are supposed to, and that is just up to me to take advantage of the opportunities offered. While I was away I was thinking how much I wanted to draw a London taxi but didn’t have the first idea how I would find one that would sit still long enough for me draw it, or be in a place I could feel comfortable drawing in. As I was musing about it in a cafe, a big black cab draw up outside and parked right in front of me. For a minute or two I kept drinking my coffee and thinking how nice it would be if this taxi would sit still long enough for me to draw it, and wondering where I would find one that would. It only dawned on me slowly that this was as good an opportunity as any, here was a taxi right in front of, here was my sketchbook sitting on the table, here I was sitting comfortable. What actually had I asked for that wasn’t there in front of me?
Amazingly, the taxi kindly sat still until I’d stopped working on the drawing.

Ahhhh. Serendipity.
One has to love how the Universe works, sometimes (and its humour, too–like the snow on the first day of Spring).

Isn’t it lovely when we ask for something and it happens? I am so glad the taxi sat there for long enough, because it is a great picture

So glad to see that you’re back, safe and sound. I was beginning to wonder if something had happened to you in the big, bad city.
I hope that there are lots more sketches like this in your sketchbook for us to see.

Brillant story of the Taxi sits for the artist to create it’s portrait! Welcome back and thanks for the reminder that sometimes it is all right where we want it but we have to remeber to open our eyes and our sketchbooks!
