Looking forward to…
…a bowl of fruit crumble.
I woke up feeling excited this morning and for a moment couldn’t think why - then I remembered the fruit crumble I’d made yesterday sitting in the fridge. Tidying the kitchen before bed and putting the crumble away in the fridge, I’d told myself, “You can have a bowl of that in the morning.” Instantly I felt a little thrill of enthusiasm, a feeling that obviously lasted through the night and pulled me out of my dreams this morning.
It’s good to have little things to look forward to. I need more of them. The crumble had a few of my gooseberries from the garden in it - and I’ve excitedly watched them grow for weeks. Sadly not the great harvest my father used to grow when I was small (and I didn’t know to appreciate), but still a good-sized handful bulked out with some things from the freezer. Next will be the red currants and then with any luck some raspberries. Little things to look forward to.
Oddly enough, I enjoyed looking forward to the crumble (which I planned to top with a generous spoonful of Greek yoghurt) more than the actually eating of it (not that it didn’t taste good)…
