Helen SearHelen Sear gave the Lunchtime Lecture1 yesterday. I was so tired (after waking up at 3.30 am and not able to go back to sleep) that I had planned not to go. But I took a quick look at her Axis page just before I was about to crawl home to bed and decided I would go along after all. I’m so glad I did. She was inspired and inspiring, an artist who makes works because she wants to understand something and who is clearly on a life long journey. Well worth missing out on some sleep for.

I’m starting to wonder if all the sleeping I did over the last decade and a half means I just don’t need so much anymore. I’ve been worrying that I’ve been waking up after only five hours or so (which if I nod off at 10.00 pm is rather annoying) but perhaps it is just things evening out. Now wouldn’t that be nice?

Hi Michael! About sleep. I experienced the same thing as I got better and better. I regularly get up at between 4 and 5 am now, and enjoy the peace that working at that time brings. At first I thought there was something wrong that I wasn’t sleeping, then realised, I was sleeping all I needed. Extra sleep makes me pretty dull around the edges now. Enjoy the freedom it brings!
