Duvet day weekend

I’m having a duvet day weekend. Even after years of dealing with ME/CFS I still find it hard to admit to myself that I need to rest.

Yesterday I announced on Twitter that I was having a duvet day (if you don’t know the term, that’s a day spent with one’s duvet. I usually spend my quality duvet time between my bed and my sofa), today I was a little sad to realise that I need to extend that to another day, and probably the weekend.

It’s not so bad. I have my teapot, an Agatha Christie novel I found in a second-hand shop last weekend, and the internet to browse (though I am trying to limit my time online so I can get a proper rest).

The above video is one I found yesterday that has given me a lot of food for thought. I especially like the idea of the computer screen being used as a window rather than thinking of it as the equivalent of a page.

Here are another couple of TED.com talks offering me more food for thought for while I’m under my duvet:

  • Maira Kalman considers the role of knowledge (or lack thereof) in the creative process
  • Elizabeth Gilbert muses on the impossible things we expect from artists and geniuses
  • Vik Muniz talks about creativity

  • Have a lovely weekend and see you all next week.

Get some rest. Thank you for all of your hard work, terrific links, inspiration, and art. Have a wonderful weekend.

Hope the rest is a help. I’ve had 3 duvet days and am contemplating adding the weekend, as the world is still whirling around rather alarmingly (tho not hurting so much) – really enjoyed reading the Beanys

I can totally empathise with you and I am in such need of a duvet day it hurts. Take the time and keep off the latpop/pc as much as possible. If I don’t get my downtime I find I have to spend long periods (weeks or months) away from my art to recharge and that leads to problems in many ways. Taking timeout every week stops the bigger creative burnouts I find. Oh and leaving the country as much as possible seems to be another winning way! So, under the pillow or onto a plane. Pillow seems the easier option.
Looking forward to reading the Beanys

Enjoy your duvet weekend, there is a time for all things under the sun, a time for rising up and a time to be still…..
Thank you bringing in the light in your own special way!

Rest well! The TED links are lovely :-)

I hope you have a rest-filled and relaxing weekend. Your tweets inspire and brighten… take care hun.

Hi- Been enjoying your Twitter posts, you’ve got a lot of good stuff on there! Here’s another Ted talk you may like about creativity and flow. Hope you’re feeling better.

I only discovered your blog recently through a link on the Drawn! blog & I’m really enjoying it, as I’m trying to do a bit more drawing for my own zines/comics.

So, it came as a surprise to find you’re a fellow ME/CFS sufferer. I agree it can be so easy to overdo it on a good day/week. I’ll be having my own duvet day tomorrow to recover from a weekend selling small press comics at the Bristol Comics Expo this weekend.

Hope the weekend rest means your energy levels are on the up again.

I soooo relate to this and your follow-up post. I’m afraid you probably won’t stay in the less driven state, but I bet you will get back to it when you lose it. The duvet is always there to help.
