Watching Hockney

Watching David Hockney

David Hockney has been an artistic hero of mine since I started taking drawing lessons a little over ten years ago. My first drawing teacher sat me down with one of his many books and I became smitten. I love that he continually changes and develops his ways of working, that he questions all the time what he’s doing, that he is constantly excited by new technology (and makes use of it in innovative ways) and, of course, that he draws (and paints) beautifully.

If you’re in the UK you can watch the wonderful documentary, David Hockney – A Bigger Picture, on the BBC’s iPlayer (the programme is also discussed in BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Review and Katherine Tyrrell has a review over on her blog Making a Mark.

If you’re not in the UK then I think this interview (iTunes link), made by Tate, with the artist asking questions posed by Twitterers, should work for you.

Happy watching/listening.
