Things you can do in twenty minutes. Number 6: Make a snowhead

I’ve become a little obsessed with the “twenty minute trick” and have been making a list of things I can do (or would like to try to do) in twenty minute bursts.

I’d been meaning to make a snowman ever since the snow fell over a week ago. Lethargy and cold (and the fact that the snow was just too floury to really stick together easily) kept stopping me in my tracks. Yesterday, spurred on by this excellent blog post from Fabian Kruse about micro-productivity (or doing something nice with an unexpected piece of free time) I set my trusty kitchen timer and went outside to see what I could achieve in twenty minutes.

The snow refused to roll together like I remember from my childhood, so instead of a complete snowman I just made a head. I was pleased with it, and learnt that whilst sometimes lack of energy and resources might get in the way of doing all one would like, it’s usually possible to do something. After all a snowhead is much better than nothing, and it makes me smile every time I look out of my kitchen window and see it.

As for the rest of my list, it’s growing. Any ideas for things to add to it?

“After all, a snowhead is much better than nothing.” QOTD!

Haha, Michael, very nice! And you’re so right that doing “something” almost always is better than nothing! (Though, of course, idleness has its power, too! But the snowhead definitely wins over just plain snow! :) )

love the snow head….clearly will bring smiles =) I think 20 minutes is a great way to provoke creativity…so often what begins as 20 minutes turns magically into an hour or so =)

Love the idea of a snow head, perhaps I could build a belly (not a full body) for it?! I, too, am working on finding ways to get things done in small chunks of time. It is definitely possible, interlacing the activities with frequent naps!

Oohh, forgot to add my 2c to the 20 minute list. I have started to “just be” in my studio for a short amount of time, no expectations, just seeing if anything happens. This way, I have set up a wall banner, and made lots of small calligraphic ornaments, for example! Things just happen, and – if not – that’s ok too!
