I have a drawing confession
Sometimes I buy things just because I want to draw them. There, I’ve said it. I feel better now.
Mostly, the things I buy are cheap enough and usually get used. But, if I’m presented with say, a beautiful packet of tea, and a non-descript packet, the beautiful packet will usually find it’s way into my basket.
These days, even my friends buy me things they think I might like to draw. I was recently given this lovely bottle of Camp Coffee. It brings back many happy memories of home. My father always had a bottle in the larder (I think it was something he used to use in his army days) and my mother would use it to flavour cakes and milkshakes. It’s also beautiful to draw.
Other people draw things they buy too. I don’t know if Kate Bingaman-Burt buys things she wants to draw, or just draws everything she buys, but she has a lovely blog (I mentioned Kate’s site earlier this week in my post, 20 Wonderful Drawing Blogs, don’t forget to check out the other nineteen if you haven’t already).

may be onto a new way to get some pressies Michael
I think you’re on to something Laura
U-oh, we’ll be looking for the hints then
Seriously – Camp Coffee, pretty tea packets, wonderful drawings and then you use contents…seems OK to me. Presumably, it being you, we won’t be seeing references to Ferraris, large yachts, diamond bling?
If I sell enough Beanys Sujatin, there might be a VW Campervan though
Nothing wrong with that!
I’ve been known to browse the charities shops specifically for nice little knick-knacks for drawing fodder. Oooh, in fact I might do that today! Have to walk past a couple shops on the way to the studio…
Campervan? Now *that* I’d totally approve of – I’ve always fancied one myself and it would be great to draw. I also love the look of those American Airsteam caravans, the classic old ones.
Miss my VW and my 2CV ( you’ve done a great drawing of one of those) – also like Citroen H vans
I dream about owning a VW. Perfect; a bed and a kettle on wheels!
Tina, I’ve just been enjoying looking around your online sketchbook!
Seems perfectly reasonable to me – just think of them as art materials!
