statement
I think of myself first and foremost as a tea drinker, but I am also an artist, blogger, illustrator and recovering ME/CFS sufferer.
At its core my work is about story telling. On a personal level, through writing and drawing, I am chronicling and examining my own life and presenting it to the world using a mixture of traditional print-based media and digital tools. The story that has been unfolding over the last few years, and that continues to unfold, is one that is at times subtly different from my real life, creating a near-fictionalised persona. It is this persona that I am currently keen to explore and develop.
Recently I have become fascinated with what seem to be two aspects of my artist-self persona, the watcher and the doer. These two characters, seemingly indistinguishable to look at, are beginning to crop up regularly in the video and animation work I’m making at the moment.
On a wider level, I am also interested in the stories other people tell about themselves via the internet; the small ways they fictionalise themselves, creating personas that may or may not truly represent who they are. I am currently developing projects that encourage people to choose how they would like to represent themselves to the world. Please feel free to join in.
